Coaching Versus Therapy

Updated: Apr 26, 2021

People question what is the difference between coaching and therapy. First, they are not the same. Therapy is necessary for anyone struggling with relationships, internal struggles, boundary issues and mental health issues. Coaching primarily focuses on setting and achieving goals. Coaching can help organize patterns to be able to overcome obstacles and live a more authentic life that you choose.

Therapy and coaching can be used hand in hand for people using things learned and worked through in therapy to clear the way to move forward with their life goals. This type of partnership is ideal. You life coach may suggest you first work with a mental health therapist if there is something deeper holding you back.

Motivation and accountability are the key concepts a coach brings to a client. A coach is not a therapist and should not be used as such.
